IRON NEST Endings — All 4 Endings & How to Get Them
All 4 IRON NEST endings decided in Mission 15 (White Shells): A City in Celebration, A City Subdued, The Road Not Taken, and A City Silent — and the exact shell choices.
IRON NEST Endings — All 4 Endings & How to Get Them
IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator has four endings, and every single one is decided in Mission 15, "White Shells" — the finale where the game asks one question: what do you load into the gun before you fire on Barcelona? Your shell choice — and one special betrayal route — determines the ending you see. This guide covers all four, exactly how to trigger each, and the mistakes that waste a run.
Here's what you'll learn:
- How Mission 15 (White Shells) works
- The four endings and their exact triggers
- The shell choices: PRPG, chemical, White Phosphorus, Atomic
- The Road Not Taken — the hidden betrayal ending (only 0.42% of players)
- What doesn't count as an ending (failed attempts)

How Mission 15 (White Shells) Works
The finale drops the normal mission structure. There's no standard chain of mandatory target coordinates to solve first — instead, the mission asks what you're going to do with the weapons you've spent the whole campaign unlocking. The game positions your Iron Nest (commonly around grid A10 in the author's run) and waits for your choice.
Four shell/route decisions map to four endings:
| Ending Achievement | What to Do |
|---|---|
| A City in Celebration | Fire a PRPG (propaganda leaflet) shell into Barcelona |
| A City Subdued | Use the non-atomic chemical / White Phosphorus route |
| The Road Not Taken | Turn on High Command and survive the retaliation |
| A City Silent | Fire the Atomic shell into Barcelona |
This guide describes the endings themselves — don't read further if you want to discover them in-game.
Ending 1: A City in Celebration (PRPG)
The "softest" ending. Load a PRPG propaganda leaflet shell and fire it into Barcelona. The city survives — which, as one guide put it, "somehow makes it worse." This is the low-commitment path for players who don't want the campaign's arsenal to end in destruction.
Ending 2: A City Subdued (Chemical / White Phosphorus)
The middle path: use the non-atomic chemical route — White Phosphorus (or the chemical family: Phosgene PGAS, Tear Gas TGAS). Tear gas is the cheapest way into this ending. The city falls but isn't annihilated — subdued rather than silenced.
Ending 3: A City Silent (Atomic)
The darkest ending: fire the Atomic shell into Barcelona. No fanfare — the city simply goes silent. This is the full-commitment destructive ending and the fastest to trigger once you have the Atomic shell unlocked.
Ending 4: The Road Not Taken (Betrayal — 0.42%)
The hidden ending, and the rarest — only 0.42% of players complete it. The route:
- Turn on High Command — destroy the headquarters (this starts the betrayal state)
- Survive the retaliation — the betraying army fights back, and you still have to deal with the retaliating military assets
If you destroy the headquarters and then get killed, you have not found a fifth ending — that's a failed attempt at The Road Not Taken. The betrayal state starts, but it only completes when you survive the retaliation. There is no fifth ending in the game.
Community testing confirms: destroying High Command then dying isn't a hidden fifth ending, and simply moving the Iron Nest into Barcelona doesn't trigger a separate ending either. Four endings, four triggers, no more.
Before You Commit: Preparing for the Finale
White Shells is short once you know the mechanic, but a few preparations make the ending runs painless:
- Have the shells unlocked — PRPG, chemical/White Phosphorus and Atomic all need to be available; if a shell family is missing, check your progression/requisition before replaying
- Bank requisition — the finale doesn't require much, but don't arrive broke if you want to experiment with loadouts between runs
- Decide your ending order — the recommended viewing order is Celebration → Subdued → Silent → The Road Not Taken (saving the betrayal route for last keeps the emotional beats intact)
Because there's no mandatory target chain in Mission 15, a replay is mostly the positioning and one fire command. You can cycle through all four endings in an evening.
Frequently Missed Details
Frequently Missed Details
- Chemical shells family: Phosgene (PGAS) and Tear Gas (TGAS) are the less-lethal options; tear gas is the cheapest chemical route
- SMK shells are needed earlier (Siege of Cartagena) — unrelated to endings, don't mix them up
- Achievements: all four ending achievements unlock in Mission 15
- Replay for more endings: the mission replays fast once you know the mechanic — each playthrough is just one shell choice away from a different ending
Why the Shell Choice Is the Whole Point
It's easy to read White Shells as a single binary decision — but it's really the campaign's thesis landing. For fifteen missions you've triangulated, ranged and fired where High Command pointed the gun; the finale is the one moment the gun answers to you. The propaganda round, the chemical round, the atomic round, and the route that turns the gun on the people who gave the orders — each one is a coherent answer to the question the campaign has been asking about obedience, cost and consequence. That's why the endings hit as hard as they do, and why the rarest one (The Road Not Taken, 0.42%) is the one where you stop following orders entirely.
