Beast of Reincarnation Weapons & Keys — All Locations

Weapons and keys are the two systems that gate your progression in Beast of Reincarnation — weapons define how Emma fights, and keys (plus the strongboxes they open) determine how much of each zone you can actually reach. This guide covers every weapon location we've confirmed, the recommended weapon progression by chapter, and every key including the trio that unlocks the Nushi's Lair.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • The weapon tier progression (Cirrus → Thunderwave → Purity)
  • Every confirmed weapon and where to get it (Hunter's Sword, Bell Sword, Shark Cutter and more)
  • The Red, Blue and Yellow keys and the Nushi's Lair
  • The Tailwater Key and what it opens

Weapon Basics

Emma's weapons are the core of her loadout. Each has:

  • Attack stat (e.g. Hunter's Sword and Bell Sword both sit around 27 base attack)
  • A unique ability — e.g. Hunter's Sword's Envenomed (poisons the blade), Bell Sword's Crushing Blade (increases knockback 1.03x for 5 seconds)
  • Acquisition method — weapons are found in the world, won from elites, bought from merchants, or given after story beats
Read the weapon abilities, not just the attack number

Attack stats are similar across early weapons — the abilities are what differentiate them. A poison weapon against a poison-weak boss outperforms a slightly stronger plain sword every time.

Best Weapon Progression (By Chapter)

The recommended path (per Game8's weapon tier list):

Phase Weapon Why
Chapter 1 Cirrus Sword Best early-game option
Chapters 2–3 Thunderwave Sword Damage upgrade; earned automatically from a Chapter 2 elite
Chapter 4 onward Purity Best in slot for the rest of the game
Poison-weak bosses (Shido, Nue) Upgraded Hunter's Sword Poison buildup shreds them
Keep the Hunter's Sword upgraded

Even after you move to Thunderwave/Purity, an upgraded Hunter's Sword is the answer to specific poison-weak bosses (Shido, Nue in later chapters). Don't dismantle or neglect it.

All Confirmed Weapons & Locations

  • Hunter's Sword — 27 Attack, Envenomed (poisons blade, +5 poison buildup, 5-second effect). Location: Great Wall Terraces — on top of a pedestal after speaking with the Storyteller golem and listening to its story.
  • Bell Sword — 27 Attack, Crushing Blade (Emma's knockback ×1.03, 5s). Location: buy from the Wandering Merchant near Mountain Plaza: Forefront camp (Brad also sells it from following chapters).
  • Thunderwave SwordLocation: obtained automatically after defeating the elite enemy during the Chapter 2 main quest.
  • Cirrus SwordLocation: early game (Chapter 1 area); the recommended first real weapon.
  • PurityLocation: Chapter 4 onward; best-in-slot for the late game.
  • Shark CutterLocation: Fuji Frontier Zone, right next to the Bridge Control Room: Approach campsite.

Additional weapons are catalogued on MapGenie/IGN as they're discovered — the game has 12+ weapons total across all zones.

Upgrading Weapons (Spirit Stones & More)

Finding a weapon is only half the job — upgrading is where the damage comes from:

  • Spirit Stones are the core upgrade material, earned from elite enemies and strongbox rewards
  • Upgraded weapons scale their attack stat and ability effectiveness — an upgraded Hunter's Sword is the community's go-to for poison-weak bosses even after better base weapons appear
  • Memory Chips, Electronic Brains and Generator Devices are rarer upgrade/equipment materials found in later zones — hold onto them rather than selling
Upgrade what you'll actually use

Upgrade materials are finite early on. Focus upgrades on your chapter's best weapon (see the progression table) plus one specialist weapon — usually the Hunter's Sword — for poison-weak encounters. Spreading upgrades across everything leaves you with a bag of mediocre swords.

Melee vs Ranged Weapons (Emma & Koo)

Emma's melee weapons pair with Koo's ranged kit:

  • Melee (Emma) — the swords above; the playstyle is aggressive and stamina-bound
  • Ranged (Koo) — ammo types and Charms do the long-range work; Emma can also use ranged weapons when the situation calls for it

For most of the game you'll be swapping between a melee setup (exploration, small groups) and a ranged setup (kiting elites, opening boss fights). The strongbox rewards that give you ammo and ranged materials are worth prioritizing for exactly this reason.

The Three Keys: Red, Blue & Yellow

The Three Keys: Red, Blue & Yellow

You need three keys — Red, Blue and Yellow — to gain access to the Nushi's Lair in Chapter 1 (Ogouchi Buffer Zone). All three are found within the Ogouchi Buffer Zone:

  • Red Key — obtained first; received during the 'Path to the Sealed Lair' objective (it also opens the door to the Abandoned Village strongbox)
  • Blue Key — found in the same zone via the Cliffside Village route
  • Yellow Key — completes the trio, near the Disposal Site area
Explore the whole buffer zone

The three keys are not handed to you on the critical path — you must explore. Missing one means backtracking through the game's largest early zone. Check every village, tent and ruin before moving on.

The Tailwater Key

The Tailwater Key is a fourth key, separate from the trio. It's obtained during the later 'Head to Subcity' quest line and unlocks specific doors/strongboxes tied to that quest — it is not required for the Nushi's Lair.

Keys vs Strongboxes: A Quick Reference

Item Type Unlocks
Red Key Key Sealed Lair door + Abandoned Village strongbox
Blue Key Key Key-locked strongboxes in the zone
Yellow Key Key Nushi's Lair (with Red + Blue)
Tailwater Key Key Subcity quest-line doors
04180 / 08110 Codes Disposal Site / Cliffside Village strongboxes
